1992 at the Movies: MY COUSIN VINNY

Thirty years of hating the short men that love Marisa Tomei.

Aunt May deserved better. She also deserved better than currently being known as "hot Aunt May" but at least she won an Oscar along the way for MY COUSIN VINNY. As for us we present no evidence of Joe Pesci's length or girth but we have our suspicions to keep us warm at night. As for you, dear listener... somehow you have found yourself listening to another episode of SOBER CINEMA.

Where did your life take a turn?

1992 at the Movies: THE LAWNMOWER MAN

Thirty years of Pierce Brosnan inviting street urchins over to play with his flight simulator.

Yeah we also had a hard time believing any of this. BUT... it was THE MATRIX of the early 90s. Which is to say that even as kids we were more amazed by the technological breakthrough of EARTHWORM JIM. And now as old men... the charms of THE LAWNMOWER MAN lead to the inevitable talk of how much better FORREST GUMP'S life turned out by having a buddy invest his money in Apple.

Thanks for nothing whatever your character's name is in this, Pierce Brosnan.

1992 at the Moves: SHAKES THE CLOWN

Thirty years of America feeling the same way as Jerry Seinfeld about Bobcat Goldthwait.

SHAKES THE CLOWN presented what we presumed to be a can't miss viable piece of cinema for a gap week in 1992 because it presented one thing we hate (clowns) with one thing we love (alcoholism) and by the end of the episode we may have found a cure for alcoholics. Watch this movie. Enjoy! Or Don't!

1992 at the Movies: RADIO FLYER

Thirty years of a turtle taking a doomed ride with a maniac kid.

But at least the dog makes it out okay(ish) in Richard Donner's misguided family film that doesn't quite capture the magic of say a Dwight Yoakam in SLING BLADE domestic abuse drama. It's just not that fun! Even with attempting to feed a turd to a now retired actor and professional Twitter troll in Adam Baldwin... young Frodo just can't make it work. So the boy from JURASSIC PARK must die. Enjoy!

1992 at the Movies: WAYNE'S WORLD

Thirty years of "comedy" from Canada.

We are not amused by Wayne.

We are not amused by Garth.

We do not suffer fools hosting their own talk show and thrusting it out to an unwelcoming world.

We do however like this Rob Lowe fellow and how he handles pizza night. Enjoy!

1992 at the Movies: FINAL ANALYSIS

Thirty years of respecting Richard Gere's hair and all the places that hair went.

On this show one host looks a gift horse in the mouth that is the masterpiece FINAL ANALYSIS and tries to bring Brad Miller to a Shaq fight when it comes to one of the greatest blondes of cinema: Kim Basinger.

But not just any Basinger... boozy Basinger who manages to inspire a man to have enough courage to trash talk Eric Roberts in a men's restroom.

And Uma Thurman as the younger sister. Movies were once a places solely for the gods. Enjoy.

1992 at the Movies: SHINING THROUGH

Thirty years of enjoying the legacy of great genes that is Melanie Griffith's family.

Also there are some Nazis to be dealt with in SHINING THROUGH but as long as they look like Joely Richardson and are up for a cat fight... we think we can handle it in these trying political times. But back in 1992 Michael Douglas was healthy and willing to get down in the mucky muck, Liam Neeson was but a simple confused Nazi instead of confusing them heroically and a friend of ours would have said Tippi Hedren was the way to go.

Dakota Johnson is the right answer but you already knew that. Enjoy!

1992 at the Movies: LOVE CRIMES

Thirty years of not knowing what we would had in the heyday of erotic thrillers.

Although it must be said that our mileage varies on just how erotic we find the wet work and horse role-play of Sean Young and That Creep From SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY. Along the way we discover some things about ourselves:

  • One host actually takes it as a compliment to be compared in looks to That Creep from SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY.
  • Another host still carries some psychological trauma from attempting to date the students of a "horse college."
  • And finally the last host (the author of these show notes means that in every sense of the word) remains frightened of the smell of pubic hair.

Enjoy!

1992 at the Movies: JUICE

Thirty years ago NOW That's What I Call Hip-Hop was born.

And if you think that is cruel wait until you see the scam that tiny Tupac Shakur and friends pull on a comely young lass working at the local record store. If you want to hear what one host was listening to as he touched his first butt (while trying to grab something else) then this is the podcast for you.

And only that specific person. For we are white. And we are talking Ernest R. Dickerson's JUICE.

1992 at the Movies: THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE

Thirty years of white women having no reason or accountability.

That may be a bit harsh but one host truly thinks that Julianne Moore deserved better. Not her character in Curtis Hanson's THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE... just Ms. Moore in general. She's great. As well as AS GOOD AS IT GETS.

The movie we are discussing is not. But it does give another host the opportunity to air out his grievances as the president of his homeowner's association while also lamenting his useless knowledge of hip hop on a movie podcast that is riveted by the glory of white women Karens as personified here by Rebecca De Mornay. She seems nice.

We also all hate children. Even the father on this podcast. Enjoy!
