BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE Five Years After LAGGIES

Our love of Sam Rockwell and hatred of Pete Davidson lead us to the obvious podcast pairing of the two previous Sundance Film Festival darlings in LAGGIES and BIG TIME ADOLESCENCE. And while we are just one of the millions covering these films this week on movie podcasts as opposed to something more off-topic like OUTBREAK or CONTAGION, the reactions we have to this particular double feature produced some scary reactions. Is Pete Davidson a ghoul? Almost certainly. But was he in a better movie than America's sweetheart Sam Rockwell? The world would end. With that in mind pay us for this podcast at Patreon!

BLACK CHRISTMAS for St. Patrick's Day

We spent our St. Patrick's Day weekend like most responsible Americans during this time of disease, famine and doomsday titillation... by drinking to excess in isolation and watching BLACK CHRISTMAS. This third version of the story failed at the box-office during it's titled holiday season with the hopes that one day SOBER CINEMA would feature it during another holiday week so that it can shape young minds to hate all men. Given that your two hosts hate themselves we might not be the ideal target audience... but it's the one that you all deserve. Enjoy!

UNCUT GEMS Still Alive on Dead Media

One host and our returning guest ANDY FROM WORK celebrate the DVD release of everyone's favorite film OF ALL TIME in UNCUT GEMS. However one host, the hero Film Twitter needs right now, hated it. To make sense of this we bring in THE VOICE OF LETTERBOXD to explain the love for a crying and naked Adam Sandler before we get into the best pathetic personas on film and depressing sports losses. It's a good time!

THE INVISIBLE MAN Ten Years After THE WOLFMAN

Unfortunately for the Internet we make our podcast visible again on presumably thousands of playlists as we talk about new release THE INVISIBLE MAN and how it cursed us with a ten year anniversary of Benicio del Toro as THE WOLFMAN. And then we get into the logistics of grappling with a nude man who refuses to put on clothes. How's that for imagery, superfan Jairo and Andy From Work?

MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN Twenty-One Years After AMERICAN HISTORY X

On October 30, 1998 the world celebrated Edward Norton as The Sorry Nazi in Tony Kaye's (??) AMERICAN HISTORY X and twenty-one year laters during the publicity tour for the November 1, 2019 release of his film MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN the world asked Edward Norton to apologize for being Edward Norton. Dave Giannini of A PODCAST DIRECTED BY joins the show to discuss where things went wrong and as usual blames YOU, THE LISTENER. Did we mention he's promoting his podcast? Thankfully even though Dave is a real jerk, he may have a chance at getting more fans for his podcast on asshole auteurs than supposed asshole auteur Edward Norton. Alright these show notes are just becoming unbearably mean so click those links:

Three Years Later: THE SHALLOWS and THE NEON DEMON

Finish out the summer with us as we present two films that came out at the start of summer in 2016 as Blake Lively battled a shark in THE SHALLOWS and Elle Fanning battled jealous supermodels. Both proved to be bloody affairs with very pretty people on June 24, 2016 but only one became a modest little hit... while the other fell more into the SOBER CINEMA area of the internet: finding a disgusted audience who for some reason could not deny their morbid curiosity. On that note, click these links!

Twenty-Five Years Later: WOLF and GETTING EVEN WITH DAD

Jack Nicholson's passion project of over a decade finally came to pass as WOLF released in theaters on June 17, 1994. If you just happened to be some combination of an idiot and a soulless, lifeless husk whose own mother regretted your very existence then you probably skipped the good time that is The Jack Wolf and watched GETTING EVEN WITH DAD instead. And while Ted Danson has one spectacular wig (and a pony tail!) the hijinks with Macauley Culkin are nothing compared to the fun to be had seeing James Spader pissed on. Agree at the links below:

Two Years Later: THE MUMMY and THE HERO

For our fiftieth episode we celebrate the old and the cursed as Sam Elliott faces the prospect of death in THE HERO and Tom Cruise, being Tom Cruise, kicks around the notion of living forever in THE MUMMY. Both films released two years ago on June 9, 2017 and while both have their merits... clearly SOBER CINEMA has outlasted their legacy. Thirteen Years Later: THE BREAK-UP and COASTLINES

As we near our fiftieth episode there may be some of you (hopefully very few as we don't have many listeners to begin with) contemplating breaking up with us. That would be a mistake. Let us take you back thirteen years when THE BREAK-UP starring Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston presented this particular unpleasant event in a humorous light. If that's not enough where else will you find a movie podcast covering the Josh Brolin and Timothy Olyphant classic COASTLINES? I rest my case. Click here for more of the GREAT Sober Cinema:

Twenty-Five Years Later: MAVERICK and EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES

America's favorite movie star is back with a charming action adventure film just before Memorial Day weekend... Mel Gibson, of course. Don't worry we'll get to Keanu Reeves for the anniversary of JOHNNY MNEMONIC next year. For now we're celebrating twenty-five years since the western MAVERICK took the box office crown for the weekend of May 20-22 in 1994. The forgotten film? One that your hosts were only aware of through its disastrous reputation, the Uma Thurman starring EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES. We'll see how far goddess Uma wiggling her big thumbs can take us in our latest episode! Now click here you perverts:
