1996 at the Movies: MARY REILLY
February 23, 1996 gave us one too many looks at John Malkovich's tongue.
Twenty-five years of America's sweetheart looking sad and rightfully so in MARY REILLY.
Julia Roberts gets down in the mucky muck by playing a maid to John Malkovich and Hollywood's version of his monstrous alter ego... which is just John Malkovich with longer hair and no tact. On this episode we pine for the days when Ms. Roberts had a less icky screen role, say as a prostitute or even Hugh Grant's lover. All manner of sins which she has done in her service as a genuine movie star, but THIS... this was too much for the American public in 1996 and it has not become any sexier since.
Even with hair, Mr. Malkovich. Even with hair.
